Spring training is underway in the MLB and the White Sox are ready to turn things around this season after last season’s big disappointment. Kenny Williams the Sox GM, tried making many offers in the season but most of the good deals that were out there, didn’t happen. Williams made an offer to Torii Hunter, only for him to go play for the Angels this season. The White Sox were also heavily rumored to be the team that would land Miguel Cabrera and Dontrell Willis, but they ended up trading starting pitcher Jon Garland for that other Cabrera guy from the Angels. Williams also traded away two good prospects in Gio Gonzalez and Ryan Sweeney to the Athletics for center fielder Nick Swisher who should instantly become a fan favorite. Never the less, Williams managed to sign some players that can possibly come in here and help the team right away. To help the terrible bullpen last year he brought in the top relief pitcher available in Scott Linebrink. He also went on to add Octavio Dotel who should also help the bullpen out. Last year the lone bright spot for the bull pen was closer Bobby Jenks, and now by adding two good relievers, the Sox will give Jenks more opportunities to close games. those fans who are worried about the fourth and fifth spots in the rotation, Bartolo Colon might be coming to the rescue. It is rumored that a deal is almost complete to bring Colon back to the Sox where he had a decent season with the Sox. In the mean time Kenny has signed Tomo Ohka to a minor league deal, and he could come out of no where and also be a starting pitcher. Ohka has played for five other MLB teams but his career record doesn’t look that good at 50-63. However, this should help fans worry less when they would only have to see John Danks or Gavin Floyd in the rotation once. However, by also moving one of these pitchers to the bull pen it could give them some insurance if they need long relief pitcher. Cuban defector Alexei Ramirez was also brought in to try and compete for the starting spot at second, Danny Richar doesn’t look ready just yet. The Sox also made a deal with the Diamondbacks to bring Carlos Quentin to the outfield where help is needed. Quentin could turn out to be a great back up, but he can easily be a starter when opening day comes. It is tough to tell how the season will go for the Sox so early into spring training, but with other teams in the division making better deals, it could be another disappointing season on the South Side.
