North Lawndale vs. Lincoln Park has been a highly anticipated game every since North Lawndale has moved to the red west. Being a young team, they have been overlooked as one of Chicago’s best teams, despite going down state last year and coming in second place in the boy’s Class A Championship.
This is a new year and North Lawndale isn't taking no for an answer. The thought of one day winning that championship, is still in their hearts. The Phoenix made their debut entrance into the Chicago public league as they defeated Lincoln Park in their 1st home/conference game of their 2007-2008 season.
The Phoenix vs. the Lions was a well fault battle and the score stayed close to the end. With players not eligible and injured the Phoenix still came out on top. The Phoenix were Up by one going into the second half and kept it close. The 6'2" power house, Jeremy Montgomery, kept his team in the game but met his match defensively when he found himself being guarded by 5'8" point guard Donte Dangerfield. Dangerfield sent the gym up with his intensity every minute he stepped foot on court, and that was the momentum that kept the Phoenix in the game mentally.
Zilijan Jones, another player who shared that winning desire tonight against Lincoln Park, said “We had to win! We have to show Chicago and shut these critics up. The only way we can to do that is by winning!” The outcome, Phoenix 68, Lions 64.
