North Lawndale Phoenix Show Force

North Lawndale vs. Lincoln Park has been a highly anticipated game every since North Lawndale has moved to the red west.

Being a young team, they have been overlooked as one of Chicago’s best teams, despite going down state last year and coming in second place in the boy’s Class A Championship.

North Lawndale Phoenix

This is a new year and North Lawndale isn't taking no for an answer. The thought of one day winning that championship, is still in their hearts.

The Phoenix made their debut entrance into the Chicago public league as they defeated Lincoln Park in their 1st home/conference game of their 2007-2008 season.

North Lawndale's General Manager Jeramy Winfield said, “I would like to say that the Phoenix of North Lawndale have started off on a good foot this season. The war for us has just begus. All we've got to do is what the Bulls did a few years ago; stick to our system and trust the plan of the coaches. We've go to contain and preserve " Them dogs" cause they are on the loose. The Phoeix is going all the way!"

The Phoenix vs. the Lions was a well fault battle and the score stayed close to the end. With players not eligible and injured the Phoenix still came out on top. The Phoenix were Up by one going into the second half and kept it close.

The 6'2" power house, Jeremy Montgomery, kept his team in the game but met his match defensively when he found himself being guarded by 5'8" point guard Donte Dangerfield. Dangerfield sent the gym up with his intensity every minute he stepped foot on court, and that was the momentum that kept the Phoenix in the game mentally.

“We knew what we had to do, and if we lost, it wasn’t going to be because we didn’t try hard enough” said Donte Dangerfield.

Zilijan Jones, another player who shared that winning desire tonight against Lincoln Park, said “We had to win! We have to show Chicago and shut these critics up. The only way we can to do that is by winning!”

The outcome, Phoenix 68, Lions 64.

  • JERMAINE WINFIELD (SOPH.)- 19 PTS.
  • JONATHAN MILLS (JUN.)- 13 PTS. 25 REBOUNDS
  • ZILIJAN JONES (JUN.) - 8 PTS.
  • MILES MAYFIELD (JUN.)- 8 PTS 8/9 FROM FREETHROW LINE
  • DONTE DANGERFIELD (JUN.)- 8 PTS.
