CHICAGO, IL – The Kane County Cougars’ historic game against the Peoria Chiefs at Wrigley Field was played in front of a Midwest League record crowd of 32,103, but was suspended in the bottom of the ninth inning with the score tied 6-6. The game will be finished in Peoria on Wednesday, and will be followed by the regularly scheduled game

First baseman Greg Dowling kicked off the scoring in the second inning with his ninth home run of the season, a bomb to right center. The Chiefs rallied in the bottom half of the second on back-to-back home runs from Rebel Ridling and Brandon Guyer off Cougars starting pitcher Jamie Richmond. Richmond lasted just 4 2/3 innings, allowed five earned runs on eight hits, and struck out three.

The Cougars took the lead in the sixth inning off Chiefs’ relief pitcher Chris Siegfried. The Cougars started the inning with a walk and four consecutive singles, including RBI singles from Todd Johnson and Jake Smith. Craig Muschko relieved Siegfried and catcher Petey Paramore gave the Cougars the lead with a three-run bases-clearing double.

Cougars relief pitcher Jason Glushon pitched three solid innings in relief of Richmond, allowing just one run on two hits with four strikeouts in three innings of work. The game-tying run came on a sacrifice fly by Luis Flores in the seventh.

In the first inning, Cougars second baseman Jemile Weeks injured himself while hustling out a ground ball to the shortstop. He hit the first base bag and landed face-first in the dirt beyond the base. He slammed down his helmet and was assisted off the field. He was replaced in the lineup by Michael Richard.

The game was suspended with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning when severe rain and lightening invaded Wrigely Field. The Chiefs had runners on first and second with Flores at the plate against Cougars pitcher Leonardo Espinal when the severe weather halted the game. The current pitchers of record are Espinal and Steve Vento.
