Late Inning Heroics Lead the Cougars to Victory
Written by Jon P. Dwyer    Tuesday, 27 May 2008 21:16    PDF Print E-mail

The Kane County Cougars squeaked by the Quad Cities River Bandits thanks to a two out, eighth inning rally sparked by walk to newcomer Denny Hamblin. The Cougars broke the one-one tie to take home a 4-1 victory. Almost six thousand fans made the trek to see Kane County face Quad Cities in a matchup of two of the best teams in the division.

Kane County started the game strong with Hamblin scoring a run in the second inning. Starting pitcher Jamie Richmond made a strong showing, giving up four hits and one run in six solid innings of work. Richmond gave up the only River Bandits run of the game during the sixth inning.

Although the Cougars had a runner in virtually every inning, they had a hard time rounding the bags. The game looked destined for extra innings until the the eighth inning.

Denny Hamblin, in his first game since being promoted to Kane County, started the rally with a two out walk. He came home from first thanks to a double down the right field line from Corey Brown. That opened the flood gates as the Cougars scored three in the eighth.
