Corey Brown & the Kane County CougarsGENEVA, IL – Corey Brown hit a pair of solo homers, and four pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts to lead the Kane County Cougars to an 8-5 victory Wednesday afternoon against the South Bend Silver Hawks in front of 6,010 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. With the win the Cougars have won all four of their series so far this season.

Todd Johnson, Jake Smith and Christian Vitters each drove in a run during a three-run first inning against Jarrod Parker, and after Cougars starter Travis Banwart yielded two in the second, Brown went deep in the bottom half to make it 4-2 after two innings.

The Silver Hawks took a brief, 5-4 lead in the fourth inning after they posted four straight two-out hits, but the Cougars responded again. Matt Ray's sacrifice fly tied it, and Johnson's double made it 6-5. Jonathan Johnston singled in a run in the fifth, and Brown launched a solo shot in the eighth to complete the day's scoring. .

Banwart got a no-decision for the first time this season, giving up five runs -- two earned -- on seven hits over four innings, walking two and fanning a career-high seven. Nick Walters (1-0) grabbed the victory with a pair of scoreless innings, Leonardo Espinal worked two as well, and Scott Moore notched his second save. .

The Cougars (12-1) start a six-game, seven-day road trip Thursday night at 5:05 CT against the Lansing Lugnuts. Jamie Richmond (1-0, 6.75) will face Brad Mills (1-0, 2.70).
