Week four is up and ready to roar! Have you found your sleeper pick yet? Are you glad you took a chance on drafting Matt Forte? Has Peyton Manning hurt your season yet? Let’s get started on this week’s fantasy football picks.
Quarterbacks
Start ‘Em
• Trent Edwards: He has to be a start here this week against St. Louis. Buffalo has shown they are a serious threat this year, and it begins with quarterback Trent Edwards. He hasn’t had a monster game yet this season, only throwing one touchdown pass in the each of the first three games. This week that all changes. Edwards will hit the 300-yard mark and throw two touchdowns. The best part of that stat is that he won’t throw an interception.
• Derek Anderson: He has no choice but to put up the best game of the season this week. In the battle of the state of Ohio, Anderson must show up. His starting job is on the line. I expect him to realize he is a way better quarterback then he has been playing. Don’t be surprised if he lights up the Bengals’ secondary for three passing touchdowns.
Sit’Em
• Tony Romo: You read it correctly! I don’t think his numbers will be that great this week. He has eclipsed 300 yards every game so far, but I think that trend stops here. The Cowboys will do a lot of running the ball against the Skins. The Redskins are allowing just under 200 yards a game against opponents passing. Look for another one-touchdown day for Tony and the boys.
Running Backs
Start ‘Em
• Reggie Bush: I’m loving this guy more and more every week. It’s pretty obvious that he isn’t going to rush for 100 yards every week. What he is going to do is rush and catch for 130 yards every week. Bush leads the league in receptions, so if your fantasy league rewards that, you have to start him. Jeremy Shockey is now going to be missing for a few weeks, and Marques Colston is already out, so Drew Brees is going to rely on Reggie even more now. I love him this week at home against the 49ers. I think another two touchdowns from him is not out of the question.
• Jonathon Stewart: Give him a go. I really thought DeAngelo Williams would wake up and realize his job is being taken. Stewart might not rack up the yards weekly, but he has a knack for the end zone, and that is what counts most. Atlanta ranks 23rd against the run so far and has allowed four rushing touchdowns in three games.
Sit ‘Em
• Rashard Mendenhall/Darren McFadden: I’m giving you a double bill of rookies to keep on your bench. Mendenhall will be getting the start against the Ravens with Parker out—not exactly the team you want to face for your first start. The Ravens are giving up 70 yards a game on the ground. Mendenhall, good luck buddy! As for McFadden, I think San Diego got the game they wanted last week against the Jets. They limited Thomas Jones big time, and I believe they will do the same to McFadden and the rest of those Raider running backs.
Wide Receivers
Start ‘Em
• Lee Evans: Such and up-and-down player, but if there is any week to plug him in and expect big numbers, it’s now. If you didn’t notice, I gave you Bill’s quarterback Trent Edwards to start as well. This combo has at least four catches and 60 yards in every game so far. He hasn’t found the end zone yet this season, but this could be the week.
• Desean Jackson: This was my sleeper player of the year. I own him in two different leagues and love the way he has shone. Sure, he had a bonehead play two weeks ago, but I’ve moved on, and so should you. He takes on the Chicago Bears, and we know how they have done the last two weeks. Jackson failed to reach 100 yards last week but hit that mark in the first two games. Look for Jackson to find the end zone sometime in the second half of this upcoming game—it’s just a vision I have!
Sit ‘Em
• Andre Johnson: I know last week I said to start him all the time. That was before I realized Jacksonville is their next opponent. Take a back seat on Johnson this week if you can afford to, or at least don’t expect monster numbers. He can usually put up the receiving yards against the Jags, but in recent history he has had trouble finding the end zone against them.
Tight Ends
Start ‘Em
• Tony Scheffler: Scheffler is becoming a huge threat for the Broncos. The Chiefs are the fourth best team against the pass, but that shouldn’t stop you from giving him the start. The Broncos counter that stat with being the highest scoring offense in the league. To me, that means they will have their chance. Scheffler should get a lot of looks if they are in the red zone this Sunday.
Sit ‘Em
• Chicago Bears tight ends: No Clark or Olsen this week. Philly’s defense is tough and has only given up three passing touchdowns all year. Orton’s tight end safety net won’t be effective this week. Find another option if you can.
Defense
If you’re looking for a couple defense options, I’ll give you a few. The Jaguars match up well against the Houston Texans, and the San Diego Chargers should see another big day on the road in Oakland. Turnovers will be plenty in those two games. If you’re looking for a team who won’t give up a ton of points, go with Buffalo, Pittsburgh, or Baltimore. Those teams should be playing in low-scoring games.
