JAIME SANDOVAL PREPARES FOR REVENGE
Written by Berni Bahrmasel    Monday, 25 May 2009 14:07    PDF Print E-mail
CHICAGO, IL (May 25, 2009) Surrounded by the hustle of White Sox fans headed to see their favorites at Cellular Field late on Friday afternoon, Jaime “SUPERFLY” Sandoval trained in the eerily quiet at the Windy City Boxing Gym for his rematch against Juan Carlos “EL PEZ” Martinez this Friday night at Chicago’s UIC Pavilion.

The Sandoval/Martinez ten round rematch for WBF Americas Lightweight Title headlines “WINDY CITY FIGHT NIGHT 2”, an outstanding evening of world class professional boxing presented by Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions, “HOME OF THE BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING”

The first Sandoval/Martinez bout took place on October 19, 2007 at Cicero Stadium. The decision win went to Martinez in an epic eight round bout that saw both warriors bruised and battered as they fought to a very close finish in front of their legions of loyal fans. Martinez was declared the victor by scores of 78-74, 78-74 and 77-75.

“I feel better about this bout, he won the first time around but I know I can fight much better. I’m very excited to be fighting in Chicago in front of my friends and family. My last two fights were out of town so this is perfect” said Sandoval.

Said Ric Ramos, who trains Sandoval along with head trainer Sam Colonna, “Jimmy’s in great shape, he’s had excellent sparring and he knows how important getting his revenge against Martinez is. His focus has been terrific, everyday here at the gym he’s had a single focus about beating this guy; it’s become an obsession, but a healthy one.”

Since the first Martinez bout, Sandoval, has fought twice, performing at his very best in taking an eight round decision over previously undefeated and highly regarded prospect Argenis Mendez in Denver in October of 2008.

He followed that up with another outstanding performance against undefeated prospect Rashad Ganaway, earning a majority draw in Ganaway’s hometown of Harligen, Texas on March 28th.

In his five year career, Sandoval, the brother of former world champion Jesus Chavez, has compiled a record of 15-3-1 (2KO’s) with seven knockouts. Martinez brings a record of 15-10-1 with seven knockouts into the rematch.

The co-main event at “WINDY CITY FIGHT NIGHT 2” will feature sensational bantamweight prospect Eric “EL LOCO” Estrada in his toughest test against El Paso, Texas native Olvin Mejia of Laredo, Texas .

Also featured on the seven bout card will be Chicagoans Sergio Montes De Oca, Russell Fiore, Sergio Cristobal, Juan Carlos Fernandez, Jose Hernandez and Tony Maldonado.
