| College Basketball Odds: Illinois a 2-Point Favorite Against Gonzaga Saturday | ||||

Gonzaga's first loss of the season was a shocker against non-ranked San Diego State, while its second loss was a bit more predictable, dropping a matchup against No. 3 Kansas State. Since dropping these games back-to-back, the Bulldogs have rebounded with victories over Marquette and Eastern Washington. Their game this Saturday is no doubt their second-most difficult test to date. The Fighting Illini have come out strong in the 2010-11 season, winning seven of their first eight games. Most notably, they've already defeated both Maryland and North Carolina, two strong teams out of the ACC. Their one loss came against their ranked opponent so far, when they dropped an overtime game to No. 22 Texas, 90-84. Neither team should be intimidated by the other, as both teams are used to playing excellent opponents throughout the year. Gonzaga is the bigger of the two teams, but has yet to use its size to its advantage, something it will need to do against a team that is long and athletic like Illinois. These teams don't play often, but locked up last season with Gonzaga earning an 85-83 victory in overtime. Saturday's game will be decided by which team wins the effort battle, as there is not a clear edge in talent. Rebounding, turnovers, taking charges and hustling after loose balls all fall into this category. My money is on Illinois winning most of these smaller battles, picking up the victory and covering the number.
