| Chicago Bulls Coaching Un-Merry Go Round: Now What? | ||||
|
![]() Now that Vinny Del Negro has become a statistic in this country’s crippling recession and has joined millions of Americans to add to the unemployment market. The question all Bulls fans and basketball followers have for Chicago’s upper management is, "now what?" Now that Chicago’s coaching carousel / soap opera has begun to spin again what will Reinsdorf and Paxson come up with now. Will they hire another inexperienced head coach with little to no coaching skills? Or will they hire the next hot shot successful collegiate coach to come to the NBA to get battered more than a piñata at a kid juvenile delinquent’s birthday party? Or will they hire a proven successful NBA coach with coaching playoff experience who won’t be a "yes man" puppet and let upper management coach from the luxury press box? At some point we must come to grips and realize that Chicago’s mediocrity plagued state is not solely because of coaching. Could it be that the front office decision making and prodding is the culprit? Better yet, could it be the greed of upper management is reason the Bulls continue to be average at best year after year after year. It seems like their more concerned with raising ticket prices, and sell out crowds rather than aggressively acquiring the players and coaches needed to compete for an NBA title. It's public knowledge that successful organizations are managed well from the top down. For example great franchises like Los Angeles and Boston want to win a championship and have a burning desire to compete every year. That’s why they reload with top caliber players every year, and hire competent coaches capable of guiding their franchises to a championship title. Can u imagine the Chicago Bulls making aggressive off season acquisitions such as getting talent like the big three to compete for a title. Probably not, the front office is only concerned with selling tickets not winning an NBA championship. Can you imagine the Boston Celtics or the Los Angeles Lakers hiring a coach with no experience such as Vinny Del Negro who has never had a head coaching job to lead their teams? Probably not, those franchises are trying to win an NBA championship not barely make the playoffs and lose in the first round. Everyone in the free world knew Del Negro would soon become Paxson’s scapegoat / whipping boy and would be ousted out of town after a year or two of underachieving with a less than average player roster. It seems as the Chicago Bulls are satisfied with being an average team as long as the stadium sells out and the franchise is making money. Of course every franchise wants to make money but to promote, and accept this mediocrity. How far this once proud and successful franchise has fallen. Not only was the 2010 playoff run a let down for the Chicago Bulls. It proved to be the beginning of the end for most of the players and coaches on the Bulls roster. There are only 6 players on contract for next year and with all the money in the world to sign at least 2 of the megastar free agents available the overall opinion in Chicago is that the front office will drop the ball somehow and make nothing happen once again. Setting all biblical miracles aside, it’s highly probable the Bulls won’t land Lebron James or Dwayne Wade which they can and should. Hopefully the Chicago Bulls front office can learn something from the Celtics and Lakers organizations. As they both are once again on a collision course to compete for another coveted NBA Championship.
