Stanley Cup 2010: Chicago Blackhawks End 49 Year Drought, Win in Overtime, 4-3

They finally did it. After an incredible game that ended with a Patrick Kane overtime goal, the Blackhawks prevailed in a six-game series.

As I screamed with excitement, I noticed that the Philadelphia fans were actually booing at the Blackhawks.

Very classy.

In 2009, when the Penguins beat the Red Wings in the Joe Louis Arena, Wings and Penguins fan alike were cheering! I know it must stink to have the opposing team hoist the biggest award in hockey in your own rink, but it's called being a good sport!

By the time they were passing, and kissing, the cup around, Philadelphia finally gave in and started cheering. Either that, or all the Flyers fans left and/or were overwhelmed by the 'Hawks fans.

But enough of hammering Philly fans. We already shut those trash-talking punks up by winning the Cup. No need to add more injuries to their pain. On with the celebration!

Jonathen Toews was named MVP. Then, as a captain, he hoisted the cup first, then passed it on to Marian Hossa, who had been to 3 consecutive Finals with 3 different teams, but had lost the first two, thus creating the "Hossa Hex."

This made me think two things:

"Man, Toews is a classy guy"

and

"Wait a second! How come Hossa talks like a Russian? I thought he was from the Czech Republic!"

Then, several questions came to mind.

"Why isn't Niemi the MVP? I love Toews and all, but Niemi was incredible in Game 6!"

"And why was Niemi passed the Cup so late?"

"How much hate mail am I going to get for hammering Philly fans in my article?"

"How fast can I score a Blackhawks 2010 Stanley Cup Champions T-shirt?"

But, despite all of these questions, I can sleep well tonight knowing that the 49-year-drought is over, and one of my favorite sports teams have FINALLY won a Championship in my lifetime (I am Cubs fan, and I don't watch Basketball).

Well, that's it for me. Have a great summer, and God Bless Chicago.

Sincerely,

Dmitri Duggan
