Chicago Bears: Hands on Deck

As the 2011 NFL season is quickly approaching the Chicago faithful has high hopes for the Bears offensive unit. The Chicago Bears adopted the philosophy of "out with the old and in with the new", as they placed old offensive coordinator Ron Turner in the guillotine and hired renowned offensive guru Mike Martz.

Last season Chicago was 17th in the league in passing, which was a major disappointment. Especially since they gave up the kitchen sink to get quarterback Jay Cutler who was supposed to ignite Chicago’s inept passing game. However, what happened was horrible offensive play calling combined with undisciplined Quarterback play and inexperienced, undersized Wide Receivers mixed with a dash of offensive line incompetence was a recipe for disaster for the Bears.

Chicago fans are praying that their new savior Mike Martz of Nazareth can deliver them from eternal offensive damnation. However Martz could prove to be a false profit if he does not go out and get some much needed WR and offensive line help. Martz, has reportedly said "The Bears strength is their receiving corps", and it seems like they are in no rush to add another WR to the roster. My question to Mike Martz is, are you kidding me? The biggest Chicago Bears receiver is Devin Aromashodu who is listed at 6"2. Which by NFL standards means he is 6"1 at best. The Bears number 1 WR Devin Hester is listed at 5"11 and is really 5"9 as we all know. In other words, Chicago does not have a single WR on the roster over 6 feet tall. Now I’m no rocket scientist, but with a quarterback who led the NFL in interceptions, an offensive line who surrendered 35 sacks, and a roster full of short wide receivers spells offensive disaster. So hopefully, Martz has plans to add a couple of wide receivers and offensive lineman by training camp.

If not, Bears fans can expect more of the same offensive blunders as last year. If Lovie Smith allows his team to begin another NFL season without filling these voids, as he did last year and the ship sinks. It will be obvious he truly is not a good Head Coach and needs to be escorted out of town immediately.
