2010 NFL Free Agency: RB Chester Taylor Agrees to Terms with Chicago Bears
Tuesday, 09 March 2010 05:09    PDF Print E-mail

The Chicago Bears picked up their second key free agent today, agreeing to terms with former Vikings running back, Chester Taylor.

According to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter, the deal is for four years and worth around $12.5 million, with $seven million guaranteed.

Taylor was considered to be one of the more intriguing backs on the free agent market.

He is the only premier one that hasn't carried the load as a starter. In nine seasons, Taylor has rushed for nearly 4,400 yards and 22 TDs. His versatility also came as a pass catcher, with nearly 2,100 yards and six TDs over his career.

With new offensive coordinator, Mike Martz, the Bears could use a versatile back that doesn't come with a lot of miles. Taylor, despite being 30—years old, hasn't been a workhorse back, which may work for or against him depending on who you talk to.

Taylor joins the Chicago backfield with third—year back Matt Forte, who is coming off a down year with multiple knee injuries. After Taylor signs, it appears as though both Garrett Wolfe and Adrian Peterson could be released. Khalil Bell, who stepped in last year and looked solid, could take the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.
